Swedish Prime Minister, Stefan Löfven, has advocated for equal pay for both men and women as a means of fighting poverty.

Löfven opined that Gender equality and equal pay promote social development and are essential to enable people to lift themselves out of poverty.

He emphasized in his message to UN Women in conjunction with the sixtieth session of the Commission on the Status of Women held in New York, that men and women must have the same opportunities in society and life.

The prime minister debunked the notion that ‘‘women’s work is less advanced, that women’s work is of less value, or even that women don’t want to have careers’’  ‘‘This is simply not true’’ he said.
